English Workshop 12: Five Secrets to Delivering Impressive and Professional Presentations in English

06/11/2026

To help students strengthen their academic communication and English presentation skills, the Faculty of English organized English Workshop 12 on the morning of June 10 under the theme "How to Deliver Powerful Presentations in English." The workshop provided practical insights and techniques to help students become more confident when speaking in front of an audience in both academic and international professional settings.

English Workshop 12 focused on helping students improve their English presentation skills.

During the workshop, the speakers outlined the key principles of delivering a professional presentation, covering everything from content preparation to audience engagement.

Understand Your Audience

The workshop began by emphasizing the importance of identifying the target audience. Before preparing a presentation, speakers should ask themselves two essential questions:

  • What does the audience need to know?
  • How interested or supportive are they likely to be regarding the topic?

Understanding the audience enables presenters to select appropriate content, language, and delivery methods, ultimately improving engagement and making the presentation more persuasive.

Organize Your Presentation with a Clear Structure

One of the most important factors in an effective presentation is a logical structure. According to the lecturers, students should organize their presentations in a clear sequence:

  • Capture the audience's attention in the introduction.
  • Introduce the main topics.
  • Develop the key arguments.
  • Conclude by summarizing the main points.

This structured approach helps the audience follow the presentation more easily while allowing presenters to manage both their time and the flow of their presentation more effectively.

Mr. Lê Công Thiện, M.A., emphasized the importance of understanding the audience when delivering a presentation.

Design Simple Slides That Communicate Clearly

Besides content, presentation slides play an important role in helping audiences absorb information. The lecturers encouraged students to create slides that are visually appealing, easy to read, and focused on key ideas rather than filled with excessive text.

Relevant images, a clear layout, and consistent formatting not only make presentations look more professional but also improve audience comprehension and retention.

Mr. Lê Nguyên Lân, M.A., explained the principles of designing effective presentation slides.

Presentation Skills Make the Difference

To deliver a compelling presentation, students were advised to master their material, begin confidently, and avoid relying too heavily on their slides. Instead of reading directly from the screen, presenters should explain ideas in their own words while maintaining eye contact, varying their tone of voice, and using appropriate body language.

These techniques help establish natural interaction with the audience and demonstrate confidence and professionalism throughout the presentation.

Answer Questions Professionally and Confidently

In the final session, the lecturers discussed effective strategies for handling audience questions after a presentation. Students learned how to:

  • Listen carefully to each question.
  • Clarify the question when necessary.
  • Take a moment to organize their thoughts before responding.
  • Remain calm, positive, and professional during the discussion.

The speakers emphasized that the Q&A session is not only an opportunity to clarify information but also a chance for presenters to demonstrate their critical thinking, analytical abilities, and communication skills.

After learning the five key secrets to delivering effective English presentations, students practiced designing a short presentation slide and presenting it in class.

Through the practical insights shared during English Workshop 12, students gained valuable skills to improve their English presentation abilities. These competencies are not only essential for academic success but also serve as a strong foundation for future careers in a global workplace, where effective presentation and communication skills are increasingly recognized as important competitive advantages.
