English Workshop 9: Natural English Communication with 4 Language Thinking Frameworks

04/02/2026

In the context of international integration, fluent foreign-language communication is a prerequisite for students to expand future career opportunities. However, many learners often face psychological obstacles when they focus too heavily on grammar or isolated vocabulary, leading to a lack of confidence and slow responses in real-life situations.

To help young people remove these barriers and regain naturalness in expression, on April 1, the Faculty of English organized English Workshop 9, themed “Fire off your English – Stop overthinking.” The event aims to provide modern language-thinking frameworks so that students can use English with both personal style and accuracy, while still speaking fluently.

The workshop was co-led by two lecturers from the Faculty of English: Ms. Do Thi Thuy Van and Ms. Pham Huong Ngoc Uyen.

Students feel more motivated to speak confidently without worrying about being “book-perfect”

During the sharing session, students were introduced to the concept of “Stop overthinking,” meaning reducing the habit of translating word-by-word into Vietnamese or being overly afraid of making mistakes in sentence structures. Instead, learners are encouraged to focus on generating smooth idea streams based on ready-made chunks, achieving the best communication effectiveness.

The core focus: 4 frameworks that support well-rounded speaking skills

The main content of the workshop centered on four frameworks, designed to support comprehensive speaking skills:

  • “Action” helps speed up responses by memorizing verb phrases in groups.
  • “Best friends” creates a more natural, more “tasteful” speaking style through accurately paired word combinations.
  • “Social” supports flexible handling of everyday social communication situations without pressure from “academic” requirements.
  • “Fillers” serves as a subtle bridge to maintain fluency and create extra time to organize ideas.

The final practical activity of the program focused on a technique called “Chunky chain speaking”—speaking by linking a chain of phrase chunks. Students were guided to combine the frameworks they learned into a complete, coherent, and logical line of speech. Practicing on the spot helped students recognize mistakes in their old speaking habits and build a fresher way of thinking about language. The enthusiastic support from the two speakers created an exciting learning atmosphere, helping students realize that English is by no means dry or dull if approached correctly.

Students quickly absorb knowledge through interactive practice activities

At the end of the workshop, okviphoatdong store students had gained practical tools they can use every day to practice on their own. The knowledge of these four language-thinking frameworks will be an important stepping stone for them to confidently express their own personality through language.
